Research from the ad network Blue Lithium suggests that "user-generated content" (UGC) generally offered a lower cost per conversion than traditional media," in part because of the lower costs associated with UGC sites, but I'd go out on a limb and say that trust plays a role in the effectiveness of the advertising (via Marketing Pilgrim).
