bourgeois paradise

Andrew Sullivan has a piece in today's Sunday Times about the positive response that former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani has been receiving from evangelical Christians in his personal appearances. According to Sullivan, "If Rudy's talking Jesus, he's running for President."

Despite the fact that he's a "pro-choice, pro-gay divorced Catholic," "Giuliani is known for two things: turning a chaotic New York City into a bourgeois paradise; and for sterling leadership in an existential security crisis, 9/11."

At a time when a major theme in post-Katrina American politics is "competent management," writes Sullivan, Giuliani's "CV is almost designed for this moment".
