why stop?

Jeff Chang is a good man. I met him in 2000 when I was working at Rock the Vote and he was at 360hiphop, Russell Simmon's now defunct dot.com. I remember sitting between him and MTV's Gideon Yago at the Bush-Gore debate at Wake Forest University. We (the audience) were told not to make a sound, but I remember the three of us all shuffled in our seats when the candidates actually bothered to talk about an issue that was relevant to young people (health insurance for recent college graduates). Unfortunately, it was Bush that came through on that one.

Anyway, in addition to being a good man, Jeff Chang is also a brilliant writer and, more specifically, a hip hop journalist. He has written for the Village Voice, The Washington Post, Urb, Vibe, Spin, The Nation and Mother Jones and now he has a book coming out on February 1st called Can't Stop, Won't Stop: A History of the Hip-Hop Generation.

A site has been set up in connection with the book's release that you might want to check out. In addition to excerpts from the book and an interview with Jeff himself, there are sections on hip hop politics, Jeff's blog and news about his upcoming appearances. You can also purchase the book courtesy of a link to Amazon.com.

Thanks for listening. Talk to you later.
