today's reason to think Twitter is great

I am "following" anti-death penalty advocate Sister Helen Prejean (@helenprejean) — and she's "following" me.

Robert Scoble (@scobleizer) posted on Sunday — on his blog — about the fact that social networks suck unless you have the right friends. Not because of status, but because those friends are producing the "smartest, richest, coolest, funniest" content. I am sincerely mesmerized by the smart things people say and share and observe.

(Of course, I'm not a total junkie. Occasionally, when given 140 words, people say stupid things.)

By the way, Scoble's in Israel — I think he's still there — rooming with Craig Newmark (@craignewmark), founder of Craig's list. How do I know? I feel like I know everything the man is doing because he Twitters every minute of the day — from airports, overheated vans, hotel rooms and more — producing smart, rich, cool and funny content along the way.
