bringing me back

I think I need to actually leave the house today. I mean, how many days do you have to be in the house wearing the same pair of pajamas before you can officially be called a "shut in"? Yes, I'm going to the gym as soon as I finish the newspaper. I smell pretty ripe already, so we might as well pack it on.

I haven't slept through the night in months and last night was no different. I was up at 2:00 am and so I did what any insane person would do: I washed the floor. Me and a sink full of hot water and Murphy's Oil Soap ("safely cleans wood") -- it brought me back. To what? I'm not sure, but it brought me back there. Luckily, I also managed to get back to bed. I think it was the pile of outdated and unread New Yorkers that I brought to bed with me . . .

Enough about me already.

Okay, a little bit more about me. I have a new Sunday morning crush, courtesy of The Washington Post: John Prendergast, "Activist for Africa". (I can't help but anticipate that Julia will tell me she knows him. Well.) He's a rock star on human rights in Africa with good hair and, yes, a good heart and an admirable willingness to talk -- for at least a paragraph -- about intestinal disorders that hit westerners when we travel far from home. These are the kinds of boys who make my heart go thump thump thump.

(Thanks to Britt of Have Fun Do Good for posting a link to the Ripples of Genocide site in the comments. I called her an enabler because now I get to be moony about Prendergast just a little bit longer, but I appreciate it nevertheless. The site, from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum -- is an excellent way to gain a greater understanding of the genocide in the Congo.)
