a few things

The Post had an article yesterday about a blog that has been set up by supporters of Vernon Lee Evans, who is scheduled to be put to death during the week of February 6. While Evans does not have Internet access, he provides responses to questions submitted by readers, which are then posted on his behalf.

According to the article, the blog is seen as part of a strategy to gain public support and "humanize" the people who have been condemned to die by the state.

Have you heard the news about Bob Woodruff and his cameraman, Doug Vogt? They both suffered serious injuries when a roadside bomb went off while on the road in Iraq. Best wishes to their family and colleagues -- and to them.

How does one 'humanize' a paid assassin? By dehumanizing his victims?

Evans, 56, of Baltimore, was first sentenced to death more than two decades ago for the contract killings of potential witnesses in a federal drug case. He was convicted in the murders of David Scott Piechowicz, 27, and that man's sister-in-law, Susan Kennedy, 19, in 1983 at a hotel that Piechowicz managed in Pikesville.
