no time to think

It's the weekend, so I am once again trying to catch up on my newspaper reading from the previous week. It's not too bad this time around; I'm up to Thursday's edition of the Post.

If you're looking for another reason to despise Republicans, forget the fact that they've decided that Jeannine Pirro is a viable opponent against Hillary in the New York Senate race next year. No, instead, ponder these brilliant words from Mark Helprin, conservative writer:

"The arts community is generally dominated by liberals because if you are concerned mainly with painting or sculpture, you don't have time to study how the world works. And if you have no understanding of economics, strategy, history and politics, then naturally you would be a liberal."

This little gem of wisdom wraps up an asinine I-don't-think-this-qualifies-as-news piece in Thursday's Washington Post about the desire among Democrats to raise artists and the desire among Republicans to raise money-grubbing bastards.
